01 The power of plant that is one of the most potent forces in shaping the 21st century

Active bioresources

Addressing the threat of global climate change is an urgent priority for human society. Intense heat, torrential rain, drought damage and huge tropical storm not only hit people’s lives, but also suffer forests, grasslands and agricultural lands, causing further environmental destruction and higher food prices.
Needless to say, plants use the energy of sunlight to produce sugars and oxygen from water and carbon dioxide. We use the plants not only for food but also for fuel and timber. Power of plant has been a driving force behind the development of human society. Resource infrastructure of experimental plants supports the research and development that utilize the power of plant to solve the global issues on food and environment.
Since 2018, RIKEN BRC has started to develop resource infrastructure that supports the research on plant-microbe symbiosis. Through the project, we intend to develop a novel technology that utilize the symbiotic microorganism to maximize the power of plant.
